Productivity Tip: Designing Your Writing Routine

Hey screenwriters!

Today is focused around designing your writing routine in order to better your screenwriting craft.

The difference between a hobby and a craft is that crafts must be honed. You have to actively work to shape your skills and add more skills to your toolbelt. Hobbies don’t require this kind of dedication.

So if you’re serious about being a screenwriter, you should also be serious about setting aside time to write every day. And designing a writing routine can help you stick to your writing goals!

5 Tips for Designing Your Writing Routine

  1. Routines help form habits. It’s easier to write every day once you condition yourself to do so!
  2. Set goals for every writing session. What scenes are you going to write today? What’s your page count goal? How long do you think it will take? Set goals in advance to help guide your writing session!
  3. Eliminate distractions. Turn off the internet, find a great writing spot, and get focused!
  4. Be prepared. Create a playlist for your writing sessions, make sure to have plenty of snacks and caffeine nearby, and set aside a large chunk of time.
  5. Keep your outline and research close. Nothing’s more distracting than having to search through your hard drive to find research notes and outlines. Keep everything close by so you can reference it while you write!

Good luck!
